Living history
from Nerja
Our house is located at number 2 Cavana Square, and is one of the oldest preserved and documented houses in Nerja. This building is a magnificent example of the domestic architecture built by the Nerja bourgeoisie in the second half of the 19th and the first decades of the 20th century.
It was built in September 1860 by Vicente Martínez Manescau, a landowner and industrialist from Nerja who belonged to an important merchant family of French origin – the Manescaus – established in Málaga in the 18th century, one branch of which settled in Nerja. Vicente founded the San José sugar factory in 1864 and was mayor of Nerja in 1868 and 1872, being one of the town's largest taxpayers.
In 1981, our parents rented the property, fortunately well preserved, opening the restaurant “Casa Luque” on its ground floor.
